Why these battles matter for genealogy

Fort Laurens, Crawford's Defeat, Blue Licks, Piqua: these frontier fights involved men whose families later settled Ohio. A soldier who served in one of them may have left a pension application, a bounty land warrant, or a muster roll entry that names his wife, children, or later residence.

Records to look for

  • Revolutionary War pension files (NARA M804), often with family details and later residences
  • Bounty land warrants and applications
  • Muster rolls and militia records from Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Kentucky
  • County histories and local newspapers that name veterans who settled in Ohio
