Estates, guardianships, trusts, adoptions, name changes, and marriage licenses (by appointment). Probate records begin in 1813 and can be viewed on public terminals in the office; staff will not do searches for you.

Puskarich Public Library — Local History & Genealogy

A 2021 renovation added a dedicated local history/genealogy area with microfilm readers and digitizing equipment. The library's free "Digital Shoebox" collection offers over 68,000 pages of historical newspapers and documents online. The lower level also houses the Harrison County History of Coal Museum.

A different organization from the genealogical society above, though the two share a building. Chartered 1952; collections include Native American artifacts and the earliest known photograph of Custer, a Harrison County native. Publishes the quarterly The Jimhinker. Call ahead to confirm hours.

Land: Seven Ranges

All of Harrison County lies in the Seven Ranges, the first land surveyed under the Land Ordinance of 1785, laid out in townships and sections and sold by the federal government.
